Forward Together: Ponca City Development Authority
THE MAP IS NOT THE TERRITORY…said the late philosopher and scientist Alfred Korzybskhave. “The map” is often the use or misuse of statistics which are tools and not really useful information without context, perspective, additional information and, of course, verification. Now the good news: Did you know that airplane landings at Ponca City Airport in November of this year were way up, more than 1000% up, over November of 2020? (the runway was closed in November of 2020). Global warming fact: This year was also the first year of this decade in which Ponca City did not have an ice storm in October. Population Growth(?):

According to the US Census, the population of Ponca City was more than 1,000 people higher than the Census estimate of 2019! (there was no documented population growth during that period, just an adjustment between their estimate and the actual Census and even this statement is “spinning” information). Bold prediction: Tonight will be the biggest Christmas parade in years! (at least two years to be precise). Traffic tip: If you’re looking to avoid traffic, there is literally no traffic on Hartford eastbound in the two blocks east of 5th (it’s closed for street repair). Social distancing tip: If you’re looking for a lack of crowds when you’re eating out, Ground Round has been empty the last few weeks (they closed last month). These are just things to mull over in this holiday season. Remember, Christmas is three weeks from tomorrow, unless, of course, you’re reading this after December 3rd.
CONNECTING… local industry with tools to identify contracts and supplies? Yes please. The Oklahoma Manufacturing Alliance, MEP National Network and Oklahoma Commerce were in Ponca City this week to do just this. Several local companies attended a PCDA sponsored luncheon in the Summit at City Central and had the chance to network, ask questions and learn how to really use Connex to connect in Oklahoma. Yes, that is Laurence in front of the group. Isn't he pretty? Pretty awesome. Do you have questions? Give us a call and let Laurence help you to connect on Connex. Check out the cool robotic arm, which was working through the presentation, here.
Have you heard about 1 Million Cups? This business information program meets the first Wednesday of each month at Pioneer Technology Center, 8:30 am. There is coffee, a business story and networking. This is where business happens: B2B and collaboration. You don't want to miss attending.
