Weekly Update May 31, 2019

THIS WEEK
ITS KINDA AMAZING… Yesterday, PCDA staffers hosted a delegation of partners from the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. These folks help PCDA from a state level by directing leads that do not yet know they need to be in Ponca City and/or assisting in getting state programs for a variety of economic development things. They are, in short, friends who spend way too much time it the big city and not enough time where real people live. They know that, so periodically they come hither to see what Ponca City has to offer potential new companies. So we showed them industrial land, the few available buildings we have, we talked shop about economic development programs and they were active and engaged. At the end of the tour, however, we thought we’d run them by things we take for granted. Things like the Marland Mansion, the Pioneer Woman Museum and other “quality of life” amenities.

To make a long story short, the tour went way over time. They were fascinated with the stories and splendor of the Mansion. They posed for pictures in front of the Pioneer Women statute. They wanted more information on things like the Poncan Theater, Mainstreet, the Arts Center and more. PCDA was more than happy to talk this stuff. They left saying they wanted to come back, not just with projects but also to tour and spend more time on the finer things in town. This has happened many, many times before. It reminds PCDA that in a world where workforce is key, the excitement of an ISO 9001 certification or the tantalizing nature of a state certified shovel ready site isn’t nearly as captivating as just being in and living in Ponca City. Come back any time, friends.

IN THE AIP
PCDA is guilty: we stalk our companies. How else are we supposed to talk about their high points; help out with issues, problems and workforce? So this week, while trolling around Facebook, we noticed Mid-America door had put a flurry of new pictures on their Facebook page. What? You aren't following all our industries here in Ponca City? Well, we are. They have a cool thing called " All Hands Meeting" which is everyone working at their location coming together and being recognized for various reasons: birthdays, good jobs, retirements, etc... Staff loves this as it celebrates their culture. We encourage you to check out some of our Ponca City industry Facebook pages. This is a great way to see how the company interacts with their employees. And they post their jobs there too.
