Weekly Update May 24, 2019

BE WEATHER AWARE …because spring is running right into summer this year. AND it's Oklahoma. Have you, as an Oklahoman, ever noticed how often other Okies end conversations about the weather with "It's Oklahoma" usually followed by a nod and a shrug. For non-Okies, you will have your own verbal habits. This one is ours and it works for us. We hope all our businesses and families are safe in Blackwell and all of Kay County as the water continues to be a issue for many of us. And be aware of the Kaw Dam being opened even more as we receive more rain on this holiday weekend. Be safe and don't drive into standing or running water. You never know how deep it truly is. We are happy to have all our staff, trustees and partners back in the state after a week of hanging with retailers at the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) conference.

The City of Ponca City announced a couple of weeks ago that Marshalls will open in the former J.C. Penney building next to Harbor Freight and a Dollar General store, branded as DGX, will be located on the NW corner of Waverly and Grand. DGX will have the usual Dollar General merchandise along with produce, grab-and-go sandwiches, coffee station, small home electronics and season items. PCDA does not offer incentives to retailers, but quality of life is favorably impacted by these types of retail projects and we love to let our peeps know about this kind of news. Find out more about City projects, programs and events here.

The Third Annual Weld for Work competition was so cool, staff wants to keep talking about it. Mertz Manufacturing has participated for the past two years to hire top scoring welders coming out of this competition. Mertz believes this is a great way to encourage local students to pursue jobs and careers here in Ponca City. Weld for Work started to keep graduating tradespeople in the Ponca City area and identify the best welders for our local industries. Pioneer Tech would love to hold this type of competition for each of it's trade programs, so if your company is interested in recruiting specifically trained and skilled workers, what are you waiting for? Call Kahle Goff at 580-718-4297 and get started.
Mertz Manufacturing, Pioneer Tech and MJ&H proudly display display their logos on the prize table and look on as the winners are announced.
