PCDA weekly news and information

BE BRIEF…BE SEATED…so last week we were very brief as it was opening day for the new City Central building. We have attached a few pictures since we know you were running around last Friday high-fiving everyone. PCDA knows, however, that throughout last week’s excitement you were also wondering “who to thank”? Thanking people is a tricky proposition and you know why, but PCDA is willing to take the risk. So if you could not make it last week, or if you were there and couldn’t hear over the wild cheering, here are some props that just need to be given: Cornell Wesley of the EDA who saw the vision and figured out how to bring $1.275 million to Ponca City for the project; Senators Jim Inhofe and James Lankford whose staffs (ably represented by Ryan Sproule and Tanner Roberts) were so important to helping Cornell secure the $1.275 million EDA grant that made the project possible; Rhonda Skrapke of the City of Ponca City who spent countless hours writing the grant; Chris Henderson of same said city who handled the initial building evaluation and helped throughout; Mayor Homer Nicholson, the City Commission and the city staff who did more than we have room to list; the Ponca City Chamber of Commerce who was a great landlord and is a great partner to PCDA; Senators Bill Coleman and Ken Luttrell who spearhead the relationship with the state; Perry Schauvliege the project architect; Kyler Construction the project contractor; the PCDA Board of Trustees cause they’re cool and always underestimate how much they contributed and how important they were; and the PCDA staff people who all know who they are and what they did. Thanks to everyone and apologies if we inadvertently left someone off the list.

WELD FOR WORK AT PTECH

Now, for the info. The Third Annual Weld for Work competition happened at Pioneer Tech last week. This workforce competition, initiated by MJ&H Fabrications here in Ponca City, grew this year to include graduating welders from Meridian Tech in Stillwater and Autry Tech in Enid competing for guaranteed job offers. Airgas Systems spearheaded the gathering of the prizes and the winner received over $1500 in supplies and equipment. This all started to keep graduating tradespeople in the Ponca City area and identify the best welders for our local industries. Pioneer Tech would love to hold this type of competition for each of it's trade programs, so if your company is interested in recruiting specifically trained and skilled workers, what are you waiting for? Call Kahle Goff at 580-718-4297 and get started.
