Weekly Update June 7, 2019

WHILE YOU WERE DRYING OUT… June is, historically, a slower month for new leads and this month is starting out as no exception. Perhaps it’s the rain or just the beginning of summer, the tire kickers are sticking close to home for now, something they seem to do every year in June. Nevertheless, PCDA has taken the brief lull as an opportunity to firm up projects with existing companies, the folks that already produce the jobs here. Can’t say much and, no, these are not game changing projects but they are critical to the three companies in question. Remember that 80% of all new jobs in any community in the United States comes from the companies that are already there. Do the math and an economic development organization knows where to spend the majority of it’s time. Smaller projects add up to one big one quickly, in terms of job and wage growth, but they just don’t often get much attention.
“I WAS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD SO….” The Summit Conference Center at City Central has already hosted several conferences. This week, the 125 th Oklahoma Firefighters Convention was in town. At their opening ceremonies yesterday, Governor Stitt gave the opening address, the first time any governor from any state has ever given an address at City Central!!!! Okay, so the building has only been open for one month but PCDA thinks it’s pretty cool that the Guv was here, saw the building and had the opportunity to meet some new friends.

"We Make Stuff..."
Source Fabrication...a spin off of Custom Mechanical Equipment, is busy doing what they do best and that is building large custom skid buildings. These buildings are used by many industries including the renewable energy industry, the oil and gas industry, and the pipeline transportation industry. They typically contain large switchgear, pumps and/or compressors. The walls of these two units are over 12 feet tall. Just another example of the many different things made in Ponca City!

GOOD HELP IS HARD TO FIND... You may have noticed that the workload of PCDA has grown a little since acquiring the City Central building. From events to general operations (clean-up and related activities there is a lot of work, particularly in the early stages when one is discovering things one never thought they had to discover. So help was on the way in two very special college students, both Po High grads, who joined PCDA for the summer. Madison Kimbrel (below, left) jumped right into building operations. Madison is an engineering student at NOC. Miranda Horton (below, right) is a finance major at OSU, ready to graduate in December. Miranda is making sure that PCDA's ongoing workforce programs such as Girlpower! are on track while things like preparing offices for new tenants distract others. Welcome to both!

As mentioned above, the Oklahoma Firefighters Association are in City Central today, as they were when Governor Stiff dropped by yesterday. It's been a busy month with the several conferences and events held, and more planned.
