PCDA Weekly Update - June 14, 2019

WE WERE BOARD… meeting this week. PCDA Board meeting that is. And it was a good meeting, but also a little sad. Amidst the approval of the 2019-2020 PCDA and City Central budgets, upcoming audit contracts, staff reports and all the contact info, there was a fond farewell to one of our favorite Trustees, Mark Southard. Finishing up a six year term, Mark has been a steady rock in our trustee line-up. First as an engineer with Phillips66 and now in his post-retirement (or do engineers ever really retire?) role as Pastor to his congregation, staff has enjoyed his quiet humor and his grasp of the economies of Ponca City and how, along with the other six PCDA trustees, he had faith PCDA could transform a donated building into the now City Central. Thank you Mark!

Other happenings this week included a new 3D printer (see below) in The Link, preparations for Girl Power! camp, new automatic locks on City Central doors and our intern Madison did a cool thing to celebrate Flag Day.

SAYING GOODBYE ….. PCDA staff and our families send thoughts, prayers and condolences to the Boettcher family as Fred Boettcher is laid to rest today in not one but two ceremonies. Two because everyone knew Fred and will want to send him off in their own way. He is a well known Ponca Citian and wore Ponca City proudly wherever he traveled. Fred's generosity and good will touched many and he will be remembered now and in the upcoming years as a true philanthropist as well as a dedicated business and family man.

3D IN THE HOUSE
S.gif
City Central has a 3D printer in The Link. This 3D printer was purchased specifically to help inventors and product designers to build a better prototype after the design process is complete. Well, maybe not complete. But at least to the point where a prototype is needed to get to the next step of manufacturing or commercializing a product. Laurence Beliel (right) is starting a new project on the printer as Keith Lawrence (left) checks out a completed project. Want to know more about this and other machines to aid design and production of prototypes? IENetwork meets the second Thursday of every month at City Central. 5:30 to 7:00. Get on the emailing list by calling Kat at 580-765-7070.

A "Let's Play" workshop ( P hysical and L ifelong A ctivity for Y outh) was held at City Central for 25 area/regional teachers and instructors yesterday. Co-hosted by OSU Prevention Programs and TSET Healthy Living, the participants learned fitness games and were trained on many creative ways to get young people interested in health and movement.

Lunch was on their own. Many took advantage of the "order ahead" function in Third Wave Coffee available to conference participants and City Central-ites. If you are needing a great location to host a party, fundraiser or conference, give Lori a call for all the details at 580-765-7070.
