EDUCATION IN PONCA CITY

 

 

Ponca City school systems are designed to educate you, your family and your workforce with skills needed today and in the future. 

Ponca City Public Schools, consisting of seven elementary schools, a sixth and seventh grade center (West Middle School), eighth grade center (East Middle School), Ponca City Alternative School for at risk students and Ponca City Senior High School. Ponca City Schools compete in Oklahoma Secondary School Athletic Association class 6A athletics.

Ponca City Senior High is the home of the Ponca City Wildcat Athletics and Wildcat band, chorale and orchestra. Recent accomplishments include four straight state championships in wrestling, national championships from the PO-HI Steppers as well as a history of success in baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and volleyball and numerous social service clubs including DECA and FFA and the nationally recognized PO-HI F.I.R.S.T Robotics team.  Check out the Robotics Team participating in the National Competition.

Ponca City's public school system is complemented by three parochial schools; the Ponca City Christian Academy, First Lutheran School, and St. Mary's Catholic School.

Northern Oklahoma is proud to call Pioneer Technology Center a partner and friend in our workforce Development. Since 1973 Pioneer Tech has offered student and professional development to high school students, professionals, industries and companies in the area. Pioneer Technology is consistently recognized on the state and national level for its academic and partnership excellence.

Additional higher education providers include Northern Oklahoma College conveniently locate twelve minutes west of Ponca City in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. Northern Oklahoma College excels in nursing, business, journalism, natural sciences and is the proud home of the new Agriculture Science department and the Digital Media Institute. NOC Maverick athletics compete in NJCAA Division 1 Athletics in basketball, soccer, baseball and softball and provides athletic recreation opportunities through intramural sports and athletics. NOC's Roustabouts are hosted at the Kinzer Performing Art Center located on the Tonkawa Campus.

College and university courses are also offered at the University Center of Ponca City located on the ConocoPhillips campus in Ponca City. The University Center currently offers on site, ITV and internet based classes and associates, undergraduate and graduate programs in forty-nine degree programs from ten colleges and universities in the area.

Within driving range of Ponca City are Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Northern Oklahoma College-Enid and Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

Cowley College, Wichita State University, Southwestern College of Kansas and Newman University are all located within forty five minutes of Ponca City in Southern Kansas.
