The University Multispectral Laboratories (UML) are a self-supporting "trusted agent" Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) complex certifying a wide variety of fully tested and reliable sensor and security systems for government, industry, and academia.

The UML is uniquely positioned to fuse academic, technical, and tactical perspectives for RDT&E and systems integration to better advance the transition of technologies from benchtop to the end user.

The UML will house programs and conduct activities to include:
Performing RDT&E, integration, prototyping, and light manufacturing for sensors with improved quality, cost-effectiveness, and time of delivery.

  • Providing educational and developmental pportunities for academics, scientists, end-user communities, and industry.

  • Facilitating the rapid movement of technical concepts to marketable products through efficient and supportive technology transfer.

  • Providing a central geographic location to conduct qualification and comparative testing under both laboratory and field test use.

  • Providing a highly secure facility to relocate proprietary, sensitive, and classified research from U.S. universities as needed and prudent.

  • Enhancing collaboration among universities, government authorities, and private sector organizations.

  • Providing national security and first response training for new sensor technologies.

  • Creating the first comprehensive sensor data search service to academia, industry, and government.

The UML has comprehensive capabilities for Homeland Security and Defense that include: Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE) Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence for Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR), Biometrics, RFID.

The UML also provides a wide variety of sensor RDT&E service capability for Domestic & International industries that include: Petrochemical and refining, Agricultural, Aerospace.
