Timothy A. Burg, CEcD

BIOGRAPHY

Timothy A. Burg serves as the Assistant Director of the Ponca City Development Authority, (PCDA), a position he has held since the formation of the authority in July 2003. PCDA is a stand alone, public trust dedicated to building the economy of Ponca City and the surrounding region.

     Prior to joining the PCDA, Burg served as the Assistant Executive Director of the Economic Development Advisory Board, (EDAB) a public-private organization contracted to perform economic development duties on behalf of the City of Ponca City. Burg served as interim director during the transition from a private-public organization, (EDAB) into the current stand alone public trust, (PCDA).

     His unique blend of expertise and perspective in economic development can be traced to two very significant experiences in his career. For eight years, he owned and operated his own business and for twenty-five years, he has been a recognized leader in the field of construction and engineering.

     Immediately prior to joining the EDAB, he was the Director of Engineering for Via Christi Oklahoma Regional Medial Center, a 160-bed medical/trauma center in Ponca City. While serving in this position, Burg received national recognition by the American Society of Healthcare Engineers, (ASHE).

     Before joining Via Christi, Burg was the owner of T-N-T Construction Company, a full service general contracting company in Ponca City, which he successfully operated for eight years before selling the enterprise in 1999. He also served as the General Manager for the Mel Crisp II Companies, all of which are located in Ponca City. During his years in the construction trades, Burg was recognized nationally for his design/build work.

      He has been exceedingly active in workforce development serving on a state, regional and local level for over fifteen years. Burg also played a key role with the Ponca City Planning Commission board for a period of over ten years. In addition to his numerous civic and professional positions, Burg was awarded recognition as the Chamber of Commerce Ambassador for the Year in 1994, and served as the Chairman/President of the Ponca City Chamber of Commerce in 1996, while continuing to operate his own general contracting firm.

     Within his scope of responsibility is operation of the Business Retention and Expansion Program, which was recently recognized as the 2006 Outstanding BR&E program in Oklahoma, by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce and Governor Brad Henry. His organization was the first recipient of such an award.

     Burg is a graduate of Northwestern High School in Sciota Illinois. He is a 2005 graduate of the Economic Development Institute of the University of Oklahoma, (OU/EDI) an International Economic Development Council, (IEDC) recognized and approved program. After only four and a half years as a paid economic developer, he achieved the status of Certified Economic Developer, by passing the IEDC's, CEcD exam. He also serves as the Secretary/Treasurer for the OU/EDI Alumni Association.  He has recently been asked to be a permanent instructor at OU/EDI for the CEcD Exam Advance Course.

     He and his wife Linda have two children: J.T. age 22 a graduate from Northern Oklahoma College, located in Tonkawa OK., and Kate, age 20 a junior at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Ok.
