VIVA OKLAHOMA EXPO 2007 ...Ponca City Development Authority and Pioneer Technology attended the Viva Oklahoma Expo in Oklahoma City this past Saturday. Many people stopped at the booth when hailed by a cheery “Buonas días” from Sylvia Urioste and left with handfuls of candy for the kids, an information sheet in Spanish that highlighted what Ponca City has to offer to all levels of workers from entry level to doctors, lawyers and business owners and Ponca City on their minds. The Mayor of Oklahoma City came by and asked why Ponca City was at the Expo and we answered “Recruiting workforce and population. Have you been to Ponca City lately?” Bienvenido a Ponca City. KNOCK N.O.C. ...Who’s there? Better yet…What’s there? …Northern Oklahoma College Freshman Orientation Day is coming up fast on August 17th. Ponca City Development Authority will be in attendance to welcome the new Kay County residents and give them a list of available jobs and internships in the Ponca City Area. And we might give them candy (college students and candy… I don’t see a correlation.) If you have a part-time job opening or internship an NOC student could fill please contact our office immediamente (that’s Spanish for real soon). PONCA CITY IN THE NEWS AGAIN…THIS IS A GOOD THING ...Yes, Ponca City has made an appearance several times in the Oklahoma Department of Commerce (ODOC) newsletter "The Community Developer". Why you ask? Because we are developing our community. This month, a standing ovation is given to Pioneer Technology for being unique and innovative and allowing PCDA to partner with them to host the 8th Grade Career Extravaganza which helps to establish a pipeline of workers for the future. David is on vacation this week but we all had projects that had to be whittled away while he wasn’t here to create new ones. Building specs and Power Point dreams filled T. Burg’s mind, as well as his upcoming trip to speak to our ED counterparts from Kentucky and Texas. Katherine was up to her elbows in marketing/advertising/Excel stuff, as well as the usual filing, bill paying and phone conversations. Jeff and Tim hosted our Economic Development counterparts from Duncan this week and Jeff has been working to put finishing touches on several projects before he leaves to go on an extended trip to China. Yes, China. Ask him about his upcoming trip. We will miss him, but he will be back in January. UPCOMING....(note: date change on the monthly board meeting) Fri.
