WEEKLY UPDATE      August 24th, 2007

STRONGLY ROUNDUP ...we were going to say weekly roundup but someone would say weakly roundup and this week has been anything but. PCDA reached an agreement with Encompass Tool last week on a new plant for Ponca City, an agreement with another company has been reached and will be signed soon, a third and a fourth company and PCDA have agreed “in concept” (this means we verbally agreed…now we just have to get it down in writing) a fifth has told us what it would take to close a deal and a sixth is meeting with PCDA staff today out of state. The PCDA deal flow right now looks like the approach pattern at LAX. No deal is done until the ink is dry and the keys are exchanged. It will also take a few months to finalize things and reach decisions but this fall is looking strong. Stay tuned. PCDA HOSTS REALTOR GATHERING ...how many realtors does it take to change a light bulb? We found out on Monday when PCDA hosted a luncheon of area realtors to show off the site selection tool on our web site, (www.goponca.com). This tool, known as the GIS Prospector, provides deep levels of data, a great tool for finding industrial and commercial sites, analysis methods and more for that site consultant in Halifax that’s looking for a site for a client at 2:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning. In order for it to work, we need to know what the sites are. Enter the realtors who take the listings. They know the sites, we have the tool to sell it. A little lunch, some conversation, several questions and a partnership is born. So how many realtors does it take to change a bulb? None. It’s a perfectly fine light bulb for the right buyer. YA’LL COME BACK NOW ...maybe this is a little over the top or an unsophisticated way to wish our own Jeff Seymour a safe trip, but young Jeffrey is off on a student exchange trip to China for the next four months, (not sponsored by PCDA…no need to start rumors). Jeff is due back in early January when he returns to continue his work with PCDA and finish school. I BID YOU ...since everyone who is anyone reads the Ponca City News, you no doubt saw the exciting story last Sunday about the new plant that will be built in the Airport Industrial Park for Encompass Tool. This project will bring up to 50 jobs into the park and will allow the company to really compete in the aviation industry, (think economic diversification). Bids are out now for that project, along with a potential parking lot addition at Bob. All PCDA public works projects over $25,000 are publicly bid to insure the best price and to insure that everyone gets an equal shot at the work. Bid opening for the Encompass Tool will be Oct. 2nd. SAVE THE DATE ...of Friday, February 29th, (like you had something scheduled then) for the annual world famous, highly acclaimed, much talked about, (at least by us) Ponca City Economic Development Conference.
