WEEKLY UPDATE      June 22nd, 2007
THE WEEK THROUGH THE REARVIEW MIRROR
...PCDA staff continued our conversations with two companies that are trying to finalize deals here. The first included an out of state tour to a similar facility that the company wants to copy, sorta. The issue here is dealing with the rising cost of construction and how to deliver the facility at a cost that is not too far above what they are paying now. Their existing facility is older and built at a time when construction materials were far less expensive. We also continued the dance with a Houston-based company, talking to their myriad of consultants and trying to give them the information they need to make the decision we all know they should make. As mentioned below, a local Ponca City company gave us a lead on an out-of-state company, (hint to companies…these are our best leads) and PCDA arranged a trip to see that company next week. PCDA staff was also all over America's West Coast and all over the west coast of Lake Ponca, (aka Ponca City) working with companies that either had people in town with whom we could potentially do business, or with other opportunities for which our help was needed.

BEARING WITNESS
...PCDA was on the road this week and will be again next week spreading cheer and telling the story of Ponca City America. This week, David "I can't believe I used to live here," Myers was in California meeting with companies and site consultants about specific and not so specific projects. The level of interest in ABC, ("Anywhere But California") has increased in recent years with one business person, (one of the specific projects) telling PCDA that while his business is in Silicon Valley, his family is in a Mid Western state because he can't afford to live in California. This week, Tim, "I don't need no stinkin map" Burg will be traveling to the Land of Lincoln to meet with a company that was referred to PCDA by a Ponca City business, (hint, again) that buys supplies from this Illinois business. The Governor of Illinois recently proposed a rather draconian tax on business to pay for a number of social programs so it's a good time to talk to companies there.

THANKS, JIM MASON
...bear with us as we thank the State Chamber's Jim Mason for making a nice comment about this weekly update to a conference in Tulsa last week. Thanks!

INTELLIGENT DESIGN
...PCDA's new business intelligence program provides a variety of information services including analysis, market research, etc. To do this, we need to find the very best sources of information. To that end, PCDA's Katherine, "just call me Klong" Long was at OSU in Stillwater yesterday reviewing the data sources available at their libraries. This means not just OSU research but the national data bases the libraries access. Klong was also working out how PCDA can tie into these sources to make them relevant to local businesses.

UPCOMING....
Sun. June 24-Wed. June 27th: Illinois raiding party (business recruitment mission)
Wed. June 27th: Stillwater Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet
Wed. July 4th: Freedom Festival, Lake Ponca, (all day)
