WEEKLY UPDATE      May 18th, 2007

BIG WEEK FOR SMALL BUSINESS ...with all the talk and attention to big companies, its worth repeating that most businesses in this community, this state and this country are small businesses. In fact most people work for small businesses not big businesses, (due to limited space, assume we inserted a comment here about the nobility of small business). Small businesses, however, do not always enjoy the same resources as big business, therefore Pioneer Tech, the Chamber and PCDA are partnering next week on Small Business week. It starts on Monday with a lunch workshop on "Quality Customer Service." Tuesday, the lunch seminar will be held regarding money management. Wednesday, it will be marketing. All of these will be from 11 am to 1 pm at Pioneer Tech and will cost $7 for lunch. The week wraps up on Thursday with "Secrets for Success," at 10 am, where a diverse group of businesses share their secrets and warnings. Lunch that day, (12:00 noon) includes a special presentation by the leadership of the new OSU UML for a mere $10. Call 765-4400 for info or to register. THE PRICE OF GAS ...if you think a public agency in Ponca City is going to say anything about the price of gas, you're dreaming. But now that we have your attention, we can talk about us, or more specifically what we did this week. PCDA staff visited with a reporter from another town early in week 'cause this town had heard good things and wanted to know how they were done. PCDA staff was also invited to make a presentation in OKC about how we are using new technologies to do better business expansion and workforce development. We also met with NOC leadership in Tonkawa to pursue a business start-up resource, developed an updated, (read this as renegotiated) proposal to manufacturing company X, sent a preliminary proposal to company Y, and hosted a community visit for company Z. In addition we met with two realtors from outside the kingdom who have clients interested in Ponca City while final touches were completed on a PCDA insert for the Chamber's June newsletter. WHERE ARE THEY NOW?? ...we really don't forget the proposals and companies we courted last week, (or weeks before). We touched base with five such companies this week. TRADE SHOW WEEK ...there is a lot going on next week in the economic development neighborhood of Ponca City Land. In addition to Small Business week, (see above), PCDA staff will also accompany the Chamber-sponsored Mayor Nicholson as he heads to Las Vegas for the big retail confab known as ICSC. Hizzoner and our Klong, (Katherine Long) will take with them a Ponca City manufacturer who wants to sell his/her wares to shopping center developers in this target rich environment. All the while, other PCDA staffers will be in Dallas with three local manufacturers at the AmCon trade show for steel and metal fabrication companies. Our employers will be selling their wares while PCDA will be selling Ponca City. UPCOMING.... Sun, May 20th-Wed. May 23rd: ICSC Retail Show in Las Vegas Mon.
