WEEKLY UPDATE      April 6th, 2007
IT'S A GOOD, FRIDAY
...don't get excited and think we're making fun of Good Friday. It's not like we ran a cartoon in a Danish newspaper or anything like that. It was just a good day today. The reason you ask? Senator David Myers led a delegation of Oklahoma legislators and Commerce officials through the UML this morning. Joined by Representative Ken Luttrell, Myers outlined the work the UML is doing and will do, not only for the economy of Oklahoma but for the nation and, indeed, the world. Sensors are more important than ever telling us about things involving health, warning us of dangers, advising us whether we have strayed into unfriendly territorial waters…you get the idea. Senator Myers is pushing for a direct appropriation from the state legislature to help accelerate the UML. Today's visit was a big step in that direction as state leaders saw what Myers and Luttrell have been telling them.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE
...it may sound like a commercial selling a handy-dandy fix-all tool with a money back guarantee, (less shipping, of course) but there really was a great deal more happening this week beyond the important tour mentioned above. PCDA staff was busy working with businesses on foreign trade possibilities, developing proposals for interested companies, continuing the e-pulse surveys, inventorying available parcels, business research, developing marketing materials, sweet-talking companies, yadda, yadda, yadda.

MEET YOUR NEW EMPLOYEES
...at the job fair on April 18th. If you're an employer, it's a great opportunity to recruit for the skills and attitudes you need to succeed. Employers keep telling us, (PCDA, Pioneer Tech, OESC, etc.) that they can't find workers. Here's a hint: They'll be at Pioneer Technology Center on Wednesday, April 18th from 10 am to 6:30 pm and it won't cost them anything to attend. They will also bring resumes, applications, etc. and be ready to interview with you and get hired by you on the spot. They know that you're looking for employees ready to work and ready to learn and they know that if you need more information, you can call 580.765-3372 or 580.718.4312. Bet you can't wait to meet them.

PCDA BOARD TO MEET NEXT THURSDAY
...or this Thursday if you took Friday off and are reading this on Monday. The PCDA Board of Trustees will meet in their regular meeting at 7:30 a.m. next/this week. Trustees will get an update on the UML and go through a budget workshop for the 2007-2008 PCDA fiscal year. In other words, they'll provide direction and comments on PCDA priorities for the coming fiscal year, (beginning July 1st) including marketing, capital improvements, incentives, etc. This meeting will not include a draft budget, (the whole idea is to get input to make a draft budget). The actual draft budget will come in May with a vote scheduled for June. Trustees will also hear about several important projects in closed sessions that will involve the budget, not to mention having economic implications.
