SPRING TIME IS SHOW TIME ...as in trade shows. PCDA frequents specific trade shows assisting our companies and looking for those interested in finding a better life in America's Family Business Heartland. At the end of this month, we'll be co-sponsoring a reception at the Corenet Global show in Denver, (think site consultants and real estate gurus). Following that, David "Anything to get away from Burg" Myers will join half the state of Oklahoma in Boston for the Bio 2007 trade show. After that, Katherine, "Anything to get away from Burg" Long will take a local business with her to the ICSC show, (shopping centers) in Las Vegas, to both sell their products and attract other retailers. Finally, Jeff "Why can't I ever get away from Burg?" and Tim "You can't run away, I'm driving" Burg will do the same in Dallas at AmCon, (American Contract Manufacturers) with three different Ponca City companies. SPEAKING OF SPEAKING ...PCDA was in Pawhuska this week explaining to the good people of our neighboring community why an affiliation with Career Tech is a good thing, (as in no more unskilled labor, life long learning, etc.). We also were in Oklahoma City yesterday for the Customized Business and Industry Training Conference, moderated by Pioneer Tech Super Doug Major, discussing how Ponca City is preparing the workforce for the future. Finally, today we're at an I2E event, (I2E is the state's new technology support organization with money and expertise) meeting with new businesses and discussing their business plans. PCDA BOARD MEETING ...Yesterday's PCDA board meeting may have fallen just short of the public interest in the latest American Idol telecast, but it was nonetheless full of important economic news. To wit: In March, PCDA staff members and Trustees had 46 contacts with new companies, 65 with existing businesses, 19 with consultants, 16 with regional partners and 29 with government. There are currently sixteen active projects and one active lead with a job potential of 700, assuming we can find the workforce. Trustees also received an update on the UML and walked through a session on the development of the fiscal 2007-2008 budget. WHACHYADOIN?? ...glad you asked. This week, PCDA staff continued to work on a fairly substantial proposal that will be delivered to company 06-03, (you know, them) in a couple of weeks. We also worked with the City on another potentially large project, continued to conduct our spring interviews of companies to identify opportunity or head problem off at the pass, and we helped two companies move into new spaces, (expansions facilitated by PCDA). SAY IT LOUD, SAY IT PROUD ...since everyone is looking for that right employee, if your business has a marquee, consider posting a sign about the job fair next Wednesday at Pioneer Tech. A simple "Job Fair, Wednesday, April 18th at Pioneer Tech" would do nicely. If we tie up all the ladders, maybe the guys that raise the gas prices won't be able to do so for a while. UPCOMING.... Wed., Apr. 18th: Job Fair, Pioneer Technology Center. 10 am to 6 p.m. Sat. Apr 21st: United Way/AmeriCorps work day at Ponca City Head Start. Call 765-2476 Ponca City Development Authority 102 S.
