WEEKLY UPDATE      February 16th, 2007
YOUR VERY REPRESENTATIVE STATE LEGISLATURE
...was the target of the Oklahoma Economic Development Council and the State Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, with Ponca City joining in on the fun. PCDA joined with AMTI, the fun folks running the UML, (the OSU sensor testing center) to visit with legislators and tell them why they should listen to Senator Myers and Representative Luttrell and provide funding to accelerate the development of the UML. Myers and Luttrell also addressed legislative issues this morning at Rolaids and Rich, (a.k.a. Pancakes and Politics). With Oklahoma's economy doing well, investing in technology and new industries that can carry the state through downturns makes sense to us, and hopefully it will to the Legislature. Tuesday's expedition was not limited to the UML, PCDA just tried to make it so while others worked the "very efficient current legislative set-up," (quote from the Co-Assistant Vice Chair for Redundancy) for other issues.

SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS
...talk's cheap. Did you know that the local OESC office placed more veterans in jobs last year than any other OESC office in the state? No, not on a percentage basis, anyone…as in total jobs. Last year, 239 veterans were placed in area jobs.

GOPONCA PARTNERS AT STATE CONFERENCE
...the who at the what? Fresh from sold out crowds in Atlanta and Oklahoma City, the team of PCDA, Pioneer Tech and our local Oklahoma Employment Securities Commission (OESC) office are becoming known throughout the nation for the partnership we have built. The team, known as the "Goponca" team after our fabulously famous web site, (www.goponca.com) will be appearing for one day only, at the Oklahoma Business Retention and Expansion Conference, sponsored by the Oklahoma Depart of Commerce, in Moore on February 28th. A $35 cover will be charged.

CONGRATULATIONS TO HOMER NICHOLSON
...elected Mayor on Tuesday. Hizzoner elect's first act was to courageously promise warmer temps when he takes office...in March.

SHOW THE MONEY THE ME!!!
...with everyone quoting Jerry McGuire, we thought it was time to show the money the places where it should be…namely Ponca City. To that end, PCDA is co-sponsoring two upcoming events, the Tulsa Technology Venture Forum and the brand new Big Twelve Economic Conference, both designed to highlight the opportunities of potential funders to launch new and innovative businesses and technologies. You just can't assume that the money will flow to the places where it will do the most good. You have to sell it like everything else. Tulsa rolls out next week with the Big Twelve up the following week.
