WEEKLY UPDATE      January 5th, 2007
PEOPLE POWER
...if you're one of the many Ponca City area businesses looking for employees, take note. Workforce Oklahoma is sponsoring a Bricktown job fair in Oklahoma City on Friday, January 18th specifically targeted at employees displaced from the Firestone plant closing and the AOL call center closing in OKC. The fair has been opened to the general public as well so this is an opportunity to get in front of hundreds of Oklahoma City job seekers that might be interested in coming home to Ponca City. The cost is $150.00 for a booth and the deadline for registering is Today! Call Workforce Oklahoma at 405-470-3200.

PCDA BOARD MEETING
...What's your new year's resolution? PCDA Trustees will start laying out theirs' next Thursday morning at the PCDA regular monthly meeting. One of the potential resolutions will be the consideration of an agreement with Tonkawa to provide economic development assistance to our collegial neighbors to the west. In addition, the Trustees will discuss the potential of completing an infrastructure loop in the Airport Industrial Park…high on everyone's resolution list between less Paris Hilton and watching more TV poker. Trustees are also scheduled to hear a report on the PCDA annual audit which insures that your money is being properly managed. All this and a general update too! What a way to celebrate another year. The meeting begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Chamber of Commerce.

SHORT WEEK???
...hey we haven't talked since last year so none of this four day week stuff. This week, PCDA contacted thirteen Dallas area companies to see if we could come a callin' with ODOC and other Oklahoma communities during a joint call trip to the Metroplex later this month. We also welcomed our newest staff member, Jeff "half a day with Rich, half a day with Burg…is there battle pay?" Seymour. Jeff will be shared with the Chamber and will handle numerous duties for both organizations. He brings great experience working with our friends in Blackwell. Work continued this week with several local companies on identifying market opportunities in other areas. Additionally, research was a priority as PCDA mined several cyber sources for state comparisons, background checks and market research.

SCHOOL BOND ELECTION
...the next installment of our monthly elections will be next Tuesday when a $35.1 million school bond is up before the voters. PCDA cannot take positions on elections but we can remind you, (if you're reading this you probably don't need the reminder) how important not just good but great schools are to economic development. Companies are also interested in a community's willingness to invest in itself. There are no corporate saviors anymore and businesses want to be sure they're not the only ones investing.
