GEORGIA ON THEIR MINDS ...or at least on the minds of site consultants who are sometimes confused with people. This past week, the Corenet Global Conference was held in Atlanta giving these friendly folks a chance to get together and talk to each other. It also gave PCDA and a select few other Oklahoma communities to stand between them and their dinner and tell the story of Ponca City and the other areas. Site consultants exist to help companies pick locations and the best way to stay on the top of their mind is to stay in front of their face. MOVING THE CHAINS ...while some PCDA staff were in Atlanta, others were doing more than holding down the fort, they were moving the ball down the field. We’ll pass along other metaphors as they come to mind. The point is that PCDA staff met with two companies this week that are considering job creation projects in Ponca City. In addition, proposals were developed for one of those companies while another proposal continued to be developed for a company we met with last week. The two primary needs of most of the current projects are, as usual, workforce and buildings. Not enough workers, not enough appropriate buildings. PCDA TRUSTEES WILL MEET ...next Thursday for the star studded November monthly meeting. On the agenda are things like a discussion on the new Oklahoma Bio Science Association, co-sponsorship of a big site consultant conference in Oklahoma next fall, a presentation of the updated PCDA strategic plan, or at least the draft of it that the Trustees will review, construction updates and the usual administrative fun including minutes and bills. Open to the public, the meeting begins at 7:30 a.m in the Chamber of Commerce board room. WORKINPONCACITY ...is not a run on sentence nor a mistake. www.workinponcacity.com is a web site that helps people find work in Ponca City. This week, one employer called to say they needed hundreds of people and they needed them now! If you know someone that needs work, there are more than a thousand jobs that are currently unfilled. As soon as we say this, however, we’ll hear from someone who says their aunt’s dog sitters’ third cousin can’t find a job as a design consultant at a six figure salary. No question, we let you down on that one. The site is not intended to take the place of the OESC site as it doesn’t even have listings. It does provide a snapshot of the type of jobs available and a place to plug into the system. UPCOMING.... Tue. Nov. 6: Tonkawa Development Authority meeting, Tonkawa City Hall, 7 am Thur.
