WEEKLY UPDATE      October 5th, 2007
ROCK OVER PAPER
...we all know the game used to decide important things, (rock, paper scissors) and this week we moved from the paper stage to the rock stage, so to speak, in the Encompass Tool project and the Bob parking lot project as we opened bids this past Tuesday. Three bids were received and references and background checks are being checked, hopefully in time for the PCDA Trustees meeting next week where a contract should be awarded. Look for sticks in the air soon. Elsewhere, we spent the week working diligently with a company from another state with two pretty good college football teams, (see story below) that wants to come here and may show up on said PCDA Trustees’ agenda next week. We also worked with another company from a state that we now know, (after last Saturday) has a pretty good college football team, not to mention a major league baseball team that’s on a tear. Work continued with three other companies in Oklahoma that continue to eye us as we whisper sweet things into their ears. We also learned this week that we’d made the short list for another. Finally, we wrapped up an expansion agreement that you’ll hear about next week.

PIPELINE ISSUES
...Oklahomans may think of pipelines in the physical sense but our metaphorical pipeline of projects needs a plumber as it’s at capacity. Sit down, Howard Wells, as PCDA’s plumbers are up to the challenge! Four new companies were added this week, (only one of which is mentioned above) but there is just so much time, money and more importantly workforce to go around. There are currently 20 companies in the PCDA pipeline. This is, of course, a good thing and it’s kinda funny to hear out-of-town companies talk to us like we’re desperate and would do anything to get them. A partnership works both ways.

BLINK AND YOU’LL MISS IT!
...next week’s meeting of the PCDA Trustees really is action packed as the annual audit is presented, (that’s high season for wonks). In addition, contracts for construction projects may be awarded, talk, talk, talk about the Oklahoma Biosciences Association will also be on the agenda along with a potential decision on a marketing campaign aimed at attracting military veterans. There will be the usual administrative issues, approving payments, minutes and other breathtaking moments, and, yes, a closed session to talk to Trustees about the sweet things we’ve been whispering in the ears of prospects. There is no instant reply and you are welcome to attend next Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the Chamber.

BIG WEEKEND
...thanks to Phil Berkinbile, Superintendent of the Career Tech System for reminding us about the BIG college football game being played in Texas tomorrow between Oklahoma and Texas universities to decide first place in the Big Twelve South. In addition, OU will also play in Texas tomorrow when they play UT in Dallas. Go Pokes! Go Sooners!
