WEEKLY UPDATE      October 19th, 2007
MONDAY, MONDAY
...this Monday will be a special one as PCDA, along with the United Way, Success by Six, the Chamber and the Delaware Tribe will sponsor a very special presentation at the Ponca City Rotary Club, (need not be a member to come but you must, as Yogi Berra might have said, be present to attend). Bill Millet, a nationally recognized expert on the link between family friendly workplaces and successful companies will speak at 12:00 noon for one hour, taking questions from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. No RSVP is necessary and there is no cost unless you want lunch, in which case you may order off the Ponca Townsite menu and enjoy the food and presentation. As America's Family Business Heartland, it makes sense that Ponca City lead the way in insuring that workplaces are good places for family members. This means that family needs are met, greater happiness, less turnover, more profit and smiles on everyone's faces. In an era where people matter more than ever, (fewer workers to go around) a family friendly workplace is a competitive edge for any forward looking business.

KEEPIN BUSY
...this week, PCDA staff implemented the agreements reached last week between Mertz and HMT, both of which were mentioned to careful readers of the Ponca City News on Tuesday. The agreements are expected to lead to the ultimate addition of 125 people in the Ponca City economy, an annual payroll of just under $3 million, and a bill to PCDA for $100,000. PCDA continued working with an out of state company that was in town this week finalizing arrangements. We also helped another out of state company seek a suitable building in Ponca City, (without success) and worked with an out of town company looking for the same, (maybe) while we danced with three local companies wanting to expand. This was in addition to ongoing business intelligence on behalf of a local company and for our website.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!
...during this busy week, we received the first phone calls from people responding to a mailer PCDA sent out to those that, demographically speaking, might be seeking greater opportunity, (read between the lines to understand the politically correct speech here). The mailer was dropped last week with the intention of finding folk to fill the open jobs here and to help them be all that they can be, (slogan source: U.S. Army, we don't plagiarize without credit). PCDA staff was also in the state capitol giving an ED 101 course, which is Economic Development 101 for those of you that get too much spam, and we also delivered another presentation to a local business on the state of the Ponca City economy.
