TWO AGREEMENTS REACHED AT PCDA BOARD MEETING ...the PCDA Board of Trustees reached two agreements with companies that will add an additional 100-125 jobs in Ponca City over the next 18 months. Read all about it in the Ponca City News. In addition, a new marketing campaign was approved, (ditto: Ponca City News) as well as the parking lot addition for Bob. The findings of the independent 2006-2007 audit were also presented with CBEW Group of out Cushing delivering a completely unqualified opinion about the health of PCDA finances, (that’s audit talk for a clean bill of health). But please, you plead, tell me about the activity in September. Now that you mention it, that, too was reported to the Trustees who learned that there were 22 contacts with new companies, 34 with existing Ponca City companies, ten with consultants, 21 with our regional partners and 12 with the government which is, of course, here to help. PCDA is currently carrying 19 open projects, make that 17 with the two that closed yesterday, for a total job count of 750 jobs, or 625 now. EARLY EDUCATION IS THE KEY ...to the future of businesses that want to be successful. Come to the Ponca Townsite at 11:30 am or call 765-9015 for information. A WEEK IN THE FUTURE OF THE PONCA CITY ECONOMY ...most of what PCDA does is about tomorrow. In the case of the two agreements reached yesterday, they started some time ago when October 11th was tomorrow. This week, PCDA worked with the companies with whom we were agreed yesterday about tomorrow. We also continued to work on another promising company from out-of-state, we met a local company about their potential expansion plans, visited with another about their ongoing operations and “dropped” the marketing campaign for workforce development, (dropped=mailed). Work continued with yet two more in-state companies interested in Ponca City and we spent far too much time moving a lot of paper from this side of the desk to the other side to comply with various laws. TEACHABLE MOMENTS ...PCDA staff, along with our friends from Pioneer Tech and the Oklahoma Manufacturing Alliance, (OMA), were in teaching roles this week. Presenting before the OMA World Summit in Tulsa Wednesday, the GoPonca team talked about workforce programs we have in place, encouraging other Oklahoma communities to do the same. There were a number of companies in the audience who could not help but notice and covet the level of support they could get here. PCDA staff is also scheduled to deliver an Economics 101 type course to the State Chamber leadership next week and to help train ED people from throughout the nation at OU/Economic Development Institute this December.
