Weekly Update
02/15/08
IT COMES ONCE EVERY FOUR YEARS...as unique as February 29th is, there is nothing quite as unique as the World Famous, Highly Acclaimed, Much Anticipated Ponca City Economic Development Conference which will be held on Friday, February 29th at Pioneer Technology Center. If you saw yesterday's media headlines, you heard gloom and doom for the national economy. Will that be so for Ponca City? Come find out as Dr. Mark Snead presents a 2007 Ponca City Economic Report and 2008 Forecast, (hint: get off the ledge). You will also hear about plans for Ponca City area businesses, new technologies that will change your life, (well, maybe not by March 1st), new workforce and technology programs and more.
IT (ALSO) COMES ONCE EVERY FOUR YEARS...we also have national elections every four years so this year's theme for the above mentioned world famous, etc. etc. conference is "Ponca City '08, The Candidate for Success." People, (and companies) have a choice every day and our community must continually campaign to make sure that the country knows where success can be found. In keeping with this theme, the conference will feature a debate designed to give you insight into the site selection process as well as the changing workforce situation. There will also be a real town hall where you will have the opportunity to become a super delegate and plan Ponca City's economic future. Tickets are $30 each which includes lunch and chair rental. Call 580.765.7070 or email klong@goponca.com today to register.
CHEAP DATE...no one took us up on the offer to use yesterday's PCDA monthly board meeting as a great spot for a Valentine's Day tryst with that special someone. If they had, they would have heard that in January, PCDA had 16 rendezvous' with new companies. We also had 44 dates with our sweethearts, (aka existing Ponca City companies). There were 19 overtures made to consultants, 14 come-hithers with our regional partners and had 20 assignations with government officials. PCDA currently has 11 active projects, after closing three successfully in January for 60 new jobs. For more, check out next Tuesday's PC News.
CAPITOL IDEAS...with the election theme in mind, (did we mention that the economic conference coming up on February 29th has an election theme and that you can register by calling 765.7070 or emailing klong@goponca.com?) we must also acknowledge that government work goes on. The 2008 session of the Oklahoma Legislature started last week and this week economic development types and workforce professionals were in the Capitol for two days telling our very representative legislature how the world should work. This week was also construction week in Ponca City, (and will be for some time) as several PCDA projects continue to rise up out of the ground. Work continued on another project that is still on paper as PCDA staff makes ready to deliver a proposal to a company on Monday.
