Weekly Update

03/14/08

FEBRUARY AT PCDA...the economic development activity report delivered to the PCDA Board of Trustees yesterday found that PCDA had 26 conversations with new companies last month along with 18 with existing companies, 17 with consultants, 11 with regional allies and 19 with our friends from the government who are here to help. PCDA currently has twelve open projects with a job potential of 542 positions. Trustees also heard a report on the CFO Rising trade show, the PCDA educational product report, (data on the graduates from area colleges and universities and what they're trained to do) as well upcoming marketing campaigns designed to get more aggressive as the economy in the rest of the nation slows down. Trustees also viewed a piece on change to prepare for next week's PCDA Retreat. If you have 8 minutes to think about change, visit www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMcfrLYDm2U.

CAN THEY GET HERE FROM THERE???...if you are a Ponca City employer and you employ people, or want to employ people through the OK Department of Rehabilitation, (DRS) you might be interested to know that Cimarron Transit is in line for funding to potentially provide free transportation to the worksite for DRS "clients," (meaning: people). Before they can do so, however, the government being the government must do a survey involving "stakeholders," (meaning: people that have an interest in the system). They'll then complete a "plan" (meaning: notebook full of data that other bureaucrats would find interesting if only they would look at it...but they don't...but it's needed anyway ‘cause the law says it must be there in case a lawyer wants it). The bottom line is that if you are an employer interested in hiring people, you might want to call Laura Croft at 580.718.0456 to find out more about this opportunity. You can also email Laura at poncatrans@sbcglobal.net.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS...PCDA, you may recall, is in the process of three construction projects. Make that two. The FTS renovation in the Bank of the West building has been completed, (twenty new jobs to be added there). The other two projects include the Encompass Tool project and the Continental Technologies project, the new name of Bob, (we'll miss Bob but we're glad it found a good home). With the weather now cooperating, Encompass Tool's foundation is down and the building should start going up this month. The floor in ContTech is now down, or at least that part of the floor needed for the company to do business, and the final step will be the installation of the three doors to allow the company to start real operations. The final completion of the building formerly known as Bob will begin in the summer as ContTech is already in, making money and employing Ponca City residents.

ECONOMIC REPORT...if your house was on fire on February 29th, (and why else would you have missed the economic conference?) you can still see the updated 2007 job report on the PCDA websitewww.goponca.com. Or click here: 2007 Job Growth.
