ELECTION CENTRAL UPDATE
February 1, 2008
DECISION ‘08...after more than a year of talking about it, Super Tuesday looms large on the horizon next week. That's right, the Ponca City municipal election will take center stage and PCDA encourages you to vote. Please be sure to step carefully around all the political pundits doing live, national broadcasts from your favorite Ponca City bistro as PCDA cannot state with any confidence that these media types can actually walk and chew gum at the same time. With all the talk about race as a major issue, (there are three candidates in the Ponca City Commission race) and gender, (there are two women and one man running for the seat) it should be exciting. There are other items on the ballot including an important County Commissioner contest and a national thing but, once again, all eyes will be on Ponca City!
PONCA CITY '08...you may make the choice for Commission, (and the other questions) next Tuesday but the real choice is made every day as more jobs and economic activity spreads across Ponca City America. This year's World Famous, Highly Anticipated Ponca City Economic Conference will highlight these choices on Friday, February 29th. Join a debate on the local economy. Participate in a Town Hall on our future, hear the voices of business and youth, along with an economic overview. Election central will be at Pioneer Technology Center beginning at 8:00 am that morning. The poll tax for this vote (not that poll tax...we're pc in PC) is $30 which includes lunch. Postcard invitations will go in the mail on Monday but you can cast your vote by calling 580.765.7070 or email klong@goponca.com.
KEEPING FAITH...the media talking heads keep bringing up faith in the ramp-up to next week's election and well they should. We are a nation of many faiths and some not so faithful. Working with the latter will be the subject of a lunch on Monday hosted by PCDA at City Hall. Beyond the obvious, faith communities provide important social connections to community activities and workforce. The lunch is designed to start building bridges in order to better involve this vital element of community life in Ponca City's economic development.
MORE CHOICES...we had one company inform us this week that they are voting for Ponca City, (more on that next week) but that wasn't the only highlight. Two other companies offered endorsements this week, provided we can get them on the ticket. These deals, which all go an open convention of PCDA Trustees, generally involve getting them the correct building at the correct price. Construction began at both the Precision Metal Fab site and in the SGS-FTS offices this week while the completion of the Bob parking lot was snowed out.
